Maria Robertson is an experienced senior executive and strategic advisor, with a track record of driving revolutionary change across complex systems, putting people at the heart of all decisions and services.
As Chair of the Digital Identity NZ Executive Council, she is committed to advancing trusted, inclusive, and user-centric digital identity solutions for Aotearoa. Maria previously served as Deputy Chief Executive at the Department of Internal Affairs, where she led New Zealand’s identity and life event services, the regulation of charities and community operations, overseeing investments of over $450 million and identity services reaching more than 5 million New Zealanders. She has chaired government risk and assurance committees, advised on billion-dollar infrastructure investments, and contributed to initiatives spanning digital trust, regulatory innovation, and Māori–Crown partnerships. Maria now works independently supporting organisations to innovate, lift performance, manage risk, and navigate system change.
