The Digital Trust Hui Taumata 2026 – Towards Universal Trust – is Aotearoa New Zealand’s flagship gathering for digital identity, trust technology, and the governance frameworks that underpin them.
This year, the Hui opens with a standout joint keynote pairing Drummond Reed with Dr Karaitiana Taiuru – bringing global trust architecture together with tikanga-informed digital governance and Māori data sovereignty.
The day moves from big-picture global insights into practical sessions focused on real-world adoption and interoperability – closing with the Trust Compact, where organisations step forward with concrete commitments ahead of 2027.
Morning
The big picture: trust as infrastructure
We’ll open in te ao Māori, hear a government perspective on what’s next, then set the strategic frame for the day with our anchor joint keynote: Global Architecture, Indigenous Authority, and Aotearoa’s Moment featuring Drummond Reed and Dr Karaitiana Taiuru. This session positions the Hui as a forum focused on the long-term architecture and governance of trust – and Aotearoa’s opportunity to lead.
What’s changing globally (and fast)
After morning tea, we shift to what’s emerging internationally and what it means for New Zealand: a keynote on the global trust landscape and universal interoperability, followed by a keynote on AI agent identity – delegation, accountability and trust when AI acts on our behalf. A moderated panel discussion brings together multiple viewpoints to test assumptions and identify what will unlock adoption.
Afternoon
From pilots to scale (practical adoption)
The afternoon is focused on execution: an adoption pathways session on moving from pilots to market scale, followed by facilitated roundtables for peer problem-solving. We then move into a hands-on working session on identity namespace and schema coordination, tackling real interoperability friction and how we resolve it through neutral coordination.
Legitimacy, commitments, and what happens next
We close with a Wānanga on tikanga-informed governance and Māori data, then end with a Trust Compact – a commitment moment where organisations identify one concrete interoperability or adoption action to progress after the Hui (to be captured and shared post-event). Networking drinks follow to continue conversations and build momentum.
